Wallpaper is Making a Comeback

From the Desk of KLM Studio. . .

My latest obsession is WALLPAPER! I remember as a kid growing up in the 70’s, we had wallpaper in every room. From a bold plaid wallpaper in the family room to the flocked floral wallpaper in the dining room. At the time, I am sure I did not appreciate the beauty of it, but I did appreciate the work that it took to apply the wallpaper. I can vividly remember my mom and my grandpa pasting these long sheets of wallpaper up and admiring their team work. When my husband and I bought our second house, the previous homeowner also loved wallpaper - it was in the bedrooms and in the dining room. In the late 90’s, I still disliked wallpaper and couldn’t wait to rip it off the walls (if only it was that easy to remove). Well, since then, my feelings about wallpaper have come around and now I can say that I honestly love seeing it in homes and in magazines. Something about the right wallpaper in the right space makes it very memorable and unique!

Recently, I decided that it was time to introduce some wallpaper uniqueness into my house. I wanted to start small and do it in a way that is not so permanent (not that having wallpaper is a permanent design element, but is is an investment). After doing some research, I decided that adding wallpaper to the back of my built-in bookcases would be super fun! In our family room, we have these gorgeous cherry wood bookcases that flank the fireplace. My goal was to lighten up the space without painting or replacing the beautiful woodwork. My thought was to add a light colored wallpaper (that is removable) to the back of the bookcases. I am still in the process of selecting the perfect wallpaper. I have ordered swatches of several patterns and textures, waiting patiently for them to be delivered. I will definitely keep you posted on the final selection and results of my bookcase makeover when it is complete.

In the meantime, I want to share with you an article that I came across about where to buy wallpaper online. I found this article very helpful and I hope you will too! Get inspired and not only add color to your space, but even possibly some pattern and texture. Have fun!
