How Previous Epidemics Shaped Design
During these last several months, have you found yourself looking at your living space in a different way? I know after spending so much time inside, I have found time to re-organize drawers and closets, re-decorate rooms, and think about how some of the spaces in my house could look and/or function better if they were designed differently. Because of this strange time we have all spent at home due to the pandemic, I was thinking that people will now view their living spaces with more function in mind. I know that I now have a basket of clean masks that are in arms reach of the front door. I am doing laundry more frequently now and have re-organized my laundry area so it functions a little better. It is interesting that a change in how we live our “new normal” daily lives can change the way we think about our living spaces.
Interestingly, my daughter sent me this article from Architectural Digest. It talks about the history of design with respect to previously infectious diseases over several centuries. I find this totally fascinating and I think you would agree! Happy reading!!!!
